A Cheap Mac That Could Rattle Windows PCs
Apple may be preparing its most aggressive Mac move in years with the rumored Mac Neo. The machine reportedly targets a $300 price, which would make it Apple’s cheapest computer ever. But the bigger story is not only price; it is positioning. Apple wants a simpler gateway into macOS, especially for students, homes, and small offices.

On the contrary, this would not challenge the MacBook Pro crowd. It would aim straight at affordable Windows PCs and compact desktop buyers. Regardless, a low-cost Apple Mac could change the budget computer market fast.
Plastic Body, iPhone Power, Everyday Speed
Apple could keep costs down by using the A19 Pro chip, a processor tied to iPhone-class performance. Reports also point to 12 GB of RAM, which feels sensible for daily work. That setup should handle web browsing, documents, streaming, email, and light video editing without drama. And yet, the rumored design choice may spark the loudest debate.
Apple could trade aluminum for colorful plastic, which sounds odd at first. But after all, a friendly design helped the iMac become iconic once. Above all, Mac Neo sounds built for regular people, not spec hunters.
Mac Mini M4 Shift Changes the Entry Price
Meanwhile, Apple’s Mac mini lineup now tells a different story at the entry level. The 256 GB Mac mini M4 no longer appears as the cheapest option. Instead, Apple lists the 512 GB model for $799, raising the practical starting price. Nevertheless, the change makes some business sense, even though shoppers may dislike it.
The M4 Mac mini became popular for personal AI agents, local automation, and compact workstation setups. Memory shortages have also made low-margin configurations harder to protect. On the flip side, this gives Apple more room for Mac Neo. Still, buyers will watch closely, because a $300 Mac would feel unusually tempting.
